  • Ani Difranco

Ani Difranco came to town and played a fantastic show on Wednesday. She is such a brilliant musician, but more than that, she is a brilliant woman. I’ve listened to her music for close to a decade now and she always manages to stay relevant. She’s a strong social and political activist who is not afraid to step out of the crowd to stand up for what she believes in. My only complaint about the show was that because it was at the Royal Theatre everyone was seated and unable to dance. Ani is a high-energy, passionate performer and it…

  • Studio 16 1/2 – Opening for “The Art of Voting”

I was just down at the opening for “the Art of Voting” at Studio 16 1/2. Artists created portraits of the past 34 premiers of BC. I did a rendition of Harlan Carey Brewster.  Thanks to Bill and Kirsten for putting together such a brilliant show. The show is amazing! You should get down to check it out. Studio 16 1/2 is open Thursday through Sat 11am to 5, Sunday noon – 5pm. More details at: http://fantanstudios.com/

  • Joint Review Panel Hearings in Bella Bella.

After the JRP inappropriately and disrespectfully cancelled the first day and a half of the hearings in Bella Bella, the hearings finally began on Tuesday afternoon. I was so impressed with the poise and resolve of the Heiltsuk people. They refused to be intimidated by the panel’s actions yet they were equally determined to prove the panel’s negative assumptions and prejudices wrong. They were respectful and complied with the panel’s requests in regards to how the hearings should proceed yet they cleverly showed their solidarity in ways that were not forbidden by the panel. A great example of this was…

  • A Special Type of Love.

I pulled an old Remington from my typewriter collection for this special session. Baby Nathan’s great-grandmother was a published poet and she always did her writing on a typewriter. Nathan’s mom has lots of memories of playing away and learning how to type at her grandmother’s. Sadly, while Nathan was still in his mama’s belly, his great-grandmother passed away. We thought this shoot would make a fitting tribute to her.

  • Pemberton Music Festival

Wow. I am in love. Pemberton was the first camping music festival I’ve ever been to and it completely blew me away! So many great shows, such little time! With multiple stages running it was so hard to decide which of the incredible shows we were going to see. We ended up photographing and dancing to infinite talent and energy in the most gorgeous setting you could imagine. Camping on the valley floor next to a picturesque sheep farm surrounded by huge rugged mountains made the festival all the more magical. Empire of the Sun Smashing his guitar like a…

  • A year ago yesterday.

A year ago yesterday I was breathing in great big lungfuls of west coast forest air and marveling at the miracle of life with these two (three) incredible souls. It was a misty, foggy, and soul-rich day which seemed to reflect perfectly the lives of these body boarding, ocean loving, tree-planters. These two are the force behind the brilliant work of Goose Goose Revolution. They also went on to have the cutest baby on the face of the planet, mine not included 😉 Scroll to the end to see their greatest masterpiece, Sacha. I love you, my wonderful friends! I…
