Fibre Fest – Victoria, BC – Keri Coles Photography

As some of you know, I have happened into a whole bunch of yarn. By bunch, I mean POUNDS. It all began innocently enough when I made a cowl last winter. I loved making it and it was something that I could do while hanging out with my wee one (like many, the moment I became a mom I developed a compulsion to multitask). People kept making comments about how much they loved the cowls so I starting thinking about selling them. I wasn’t super happy with the yarn I was finding around town so I jumped at the chance to buy some Fair Trade yarn at wholesale from a friend that just got back from Uruguay (enter first 20 pounds). The yarn is from Manos del UruguayΒ and is luscious and beautiful. I made a couple of cowls from the yarn and, while they were gorgeous, they didn’t have the exact look I was going for. I was looking for a chunkier wool. So in typical Keri fashion, I dove in. I tracked down some alpacas, went to shearing day (photos to come in another post), loaded up on fibre, and took it over to the Gulf Islands’ Spinning Mill so they could spin it into exactly what I wanted. Some people may say I have a problem πŸ˜‰

So now I have copious amounts of both Manos del Uruguay yarn and the fabulous Salt Spring softspun yarn. I am cowling to my heart’s content. I went to the Victoria Fibre Fest recently and had a table set up to sell some of my extra yarn. The last few photos in the gallery below (starting at the wooden buttons) are what I had for sale at the event. It was a great day full of fibery goodness.

I have a confession to make. I love them all best of all. They are all my favorites. I can’t help it. All the babies and children that come to me to get photographed are perfect in their own amazing, individual ways. I can’t help but fall in love with each and every one that walks through the studio doors. William is my favorite because he reminds me of Superman πŸ˜‰

My good friend Erin came by with her two kids as well as her sister’s two girls to get some photos for Christmas. What a gorgeous group they are! There is never a dull moment when you are photographing a few children together! Sometimes the best solution is to just let them play and have fun! Did I mention I love kids πŸ˜‰ Great seeing you Erin!!

  • Joint Review Panel Hearings in Bella Bella.

After the JRP inappropriately and disrespectfully cancelled the first day and a half of the hearings in Bella Bella, the hearings finally began on Tuesday afternoon. I was so impressed with the poise and resolve of the Heiltsuk people. They refused to be intimidated by the panel’s actions yet they were equally determined to prove the panel’s negative assumptions and prejudices wrong. They were respectful and complied with the panel’s requests in regards to how the hearings should proceed yet they cleverly showed their solidarity in ways that were not forbidden by the panel. A great example of this was…

  • Leanne & Taylor

What a beautiful day it is was for Leanne & Taylor’s wedding! While I tend to fall in love with all my clients, L&T kicked it up a notch by keeping me in stitches all day long. My stomach and face hurt at the end of the day from all the laughing. Thank you so much, Leanne and Taylor, for having us there on your most amazing day. Thanks, Shealyn, for capturing the day with me! The beautiful ceremony and reception were held at the Westin at Bear Mountain and the wedding party photos were taken at the historical Fort…
