Studio 16 1/2-the Premier Portrait Project: a part of “The Art of Voting”

Just wanted to let you know about another show coming up. As part of Studio 16 1/2’s Premier Portrait Project, I did a rendition of Harlan Carey Brewster (the premier who, among other things, brought in women’s suffrage and prohibition in 1917).  The show runs from May.2nd, 2009 – May. 31, 2009 with the opening on May.2nd at 8pm. Come check it out! The gallery space is very cool and I was super impressed with the pieces that I had a peek at when I dropped mine off.

  • Club Kwench – An evening with The Jealous Curator

Tessa McLoughlin is a local hero of mine. She possesses not only exceptional vision in regards to arts and community but also the follow through to turn that vision into reality. Last night’s inaugural Club Kwench dinner was a prime example. Club Kwench grew out of Tessa’s belief that happiness comes from many angles and that it is not readymade. “It comes from your own actions. Kwench makes those actions easier by providing you with experiences that encourage and cultivate connection, curiosity, and cooperation.” Last night was a brilliant evening of connection, inspiration, laughter, nourishment, and creativity, which all led…

  • Rifflandia-Day1

Victoria is oozing with musical talent at the moment, thanks to Rifflandia!  www.rifflandia.com I totally adore watching people do what they are passionate about. There is something so magical about capturing a person in their element. You realize how much work and love and time they have dedicated to it and they just glow with greatness. They look that way to me anyway. Tonight involved me thinking that I had seen the wickedest band time and time again. What I mean by that is”wow, what an awesome band! I have to tell everyone about them! oh no wait, this is…

  • Ani Difranco

Ani Difranco came to town and played a fantastic show on Wednesday. She is such a brilliant musician, but more than that, she is a brilliant woman. I’ve listened to her music for close to a decade now and she always manages to stay relevant. She’s a strong social and political activist who is not afraid to step out of the crowd to stand up for what she believes in. My only complaint about the show was that because it was at the Royal Theatre everyone was seated and unable to dance. Ani is a high-energy, passionate performer and it…

  • Morning at the Track.

I was in Vancouver on Tuesday and thought I’d stop by the track to say hi to a friend and to get some shots of the horses as training begins.  Some of the horses were pretty wild getting back out there!  I can’t wait to go back in April when the races start. So much fun!  I really miss working with horses. It was nice to be around them again, even if it was watching them from afar 😉
